The PUBG Mobile 4.0 update shipped globally on September 4, 2025, and it turned out to be one of the bigger content drops in the game’s recent history. If you’re catching up on what actually changed, here’s the full rundown plus where things stand now, almost a year on.

What PUBG Mobile 4.0 actually included

  1. Spooky Soiree — Halloween mode: A limited-time themed mode that ran across Erangel, Livik, and Rondo from September 3 through November 4, 2025, packed with Halloween-specific loot, visuals, and objectives. It’s since ended, but it set the tone for the collab-driven updates that followed.

  2. Magic Mirror Castle: A new themed area added for the event, loaded with eerie visuals and some of the best loot on the map while it was active.

  3. Ghost Companion: A playful ghost squadmate that could heal you, shield you from damage, and even help you fly using a Ghost Balloon — one of the more unusual gameplay additions PUBG Mobile has shipped.

  4. New Mortar weapon: Occupying the pistol slot, the Mortar added both direct-fire and indirect map-targeted bombardment options, giving players a genuinely new way to threaten a position without direct line of sight.

  5. Cross-platform play: Android and iOS players could finally team up in the same squad, closing a gap that had existed since launch.

  6. A15 Royale Pass: Launched alongside the update with its own set of themed cosmetics and profile items.

What’s happened since 4.0

PUBG Mobile hasn’t slowed down since. Version 4.3 (“Developing Universe,” March 2026) expanded the specialization system to five skills — Healing, Exploration, Combat, Detection, and Transport — passive perks that meaningfully change how you approach a match before you even land. Version 4.4 (“Hero’s Crown,” May 2026) brought an Ancient Greek and Roman mythology theme, reworking parts of Erangel around temple ruins and a floating island called Crown’s Abode. Version 4.5 (July 2026) leaned into crossovers, with Naruto Shippuden, Ferrari, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day content all landing in the same update, including active Ninjutsu abilities and a rebuilt Hidden Leaf Village.

As of this writing, version 4.6 is in open beta (the 4.6.2 build went live August 7, 2026), with a full release expected in late August or early September 2026 pending how testing goes.

FAQs: PUBG Mobile 4.0 and beyond

Is the Spooky Soiree mode still playable?

No — it was a limited-time Halloween event that ran from September 3 to November 4, 2025. The Magic Mirror Castle area and Ghost Companion mechanic were tied to that event and aren’t part of the standard map rotation anymore, though Tencent has reused similar themed-event formats in updates since.

Is the Mortar still in the game?

Yes — unlike the Halloween-specific content, the Mortar shipped as a permanent weapon addition in 4.0 and has stuck around through the updates that followed.

Do I need to be on the latest version to play with friends?

Generally yes. PUBG Mobile requires all squad members to be on a compatible version to matchmake together, so if a friend can’t find your lobby, mismatched app versions are the first thing to check.

Getting ready for the next big update

Whether it’s 4.6 or whatever comes after it, the same prep advice applies to every major PUBG Mobile release:

  • Free Rewards: PUBG Mobile usually gives rewards (skins, UC discounts) to players who update early.

  • Storage Space: Major updates tend to be large, so free up at least 3-4 GB before you start the download.

  • Log in Early: Servers can get crowded right after rollout — updating as soon as it’s live helps you avoid queue delays.
